On Top of the World. Well, Almost!

A Glimpse of exkalibur’s Daily Meeting on Our Rooftop in Porrentruy

8:45 a.m. Porrentruy Wakes Up

It’s early, yet Rue de la Roche-de-Mars already bounces sunlight off its terracotta roofs. We climb the final flight of stairs to our rooftop: a minimalist terrace with a glass balustrade that opens onto the Jura’s wooded hills. The air is crisp; the scent of fresh coffee mingles with pine resin drifting down from the slopes. This is where every exkalibur day begins.

Why Hold the Daily Stand-Up on the Roof?

  • Fresh air & clarity – Five oxygen-rich minutes set the tone before the sprint.
  • Panoramic view = panoramic vision – Hard to stay narrow-minded when the horizon stretches 360°.
  • Unity – Stepping out of the open space symbolically silences notifications, letting us focus on what matters: the team.

9:00 a.m. Sharp. The Circle Forms

No tables, no slides, just one wide circle. Our Scrum Master starts a three-minute timer for each person. Everyone answers the ritual questions:

  1. What did I accomplish yesterday?
  2. What am I working on today?
  3. What obstacles could slow me down?

While the Data Scientist explains tweaking a classification model, the Product Designer is already sketching a new interface. The Backend Lead flags looming technical debt, and Legal & Compliance suggests tackling it right after the stand-up. All this unfolds with the mountains as a backdrop, ideal for keeping answers short!

Methodical Yet Energetic

Fifteen minutes later, we’re done. We finish with a collective “Clap”—a single, perfectly timed clap that’s an exkalibur signature—followed by laughter echoing off nearby façades. Then everyone heads back downstairs:

  • The Data Scientist and Backend Lead dive into the war room to neutralise the tech-debt risk.
  • The Product Designer pins the first wireframes in the Design Zone.
  • Legal & Compliance prepares the afternoon GDPR briefing (subtitle: keeping compliance from killing creativity).

What This Brings to Our Clients

  1. Quick decisions — A blocker cleared at 9:15 never turns into a two-day delay.
  2. Continuous delivery — The steady rhythm feeds our CI/CD; every sprint ships real value.
  3. Transparency culture — Discussing hurdles in the open air pushes us to solve them fast—and well.
